The fabric trends for 2023 reflect our desire for interiors that exude a sense of positivity. We want to spend time in homes that make us feel good – whether that be quiet, calming spaces or rooms that excite the eye with joyful prints and patterns. More than ever before, texture is of huge importance: our homes need to feel wonderful to the touch, with soft linens, tactile bouclés and luxurious velvets. Read on to discover what the most beautiful interiors are wearing right now…
Go retro
The fashion for 1960s style pieces is on the rise and this, in turn, is inspiring a revival of retro fabrics. These punchy prints reflect a desire for playfulness and colour in the home, our Casper design being a case in point. Printed on luxurious velvet, it comes in nine contemporary colourways, all of which are sure to add a touch of chutzpah to an interior.
Embrace minimalism
The trend for simple, pared-back interiors has never really gone away, and the current shift is towards minimalist homes that celebrate craftsmanship and fine materials. In terms of fabrics, this means textural choices such as wools, natural linens and bouclé designs like our gorgeous Sienna fabric, made from a mix of linen, cotton and viscose yarns. Wonderful for upholstered pieces but also lovely for bringing warmth to window dressings.
Soft romantic
We are currently witnessing a fashion for subtly romantic fabrics that bring nostalgic charm to an interior. Botanicals, ditsy prints and painterly designs all beautifully capture this aesthetic, and look glorious layered on a sofa or bed. This space sees a frilled eiderdown, cushions and bed drapes – the height of romanticism – all showcasing fabrics from our Small Prints collection, a versatile range that embodies the new mood for laid-back living.
Let your walls inspire your furnishings
This trend sees us taking our cues from wall colours, tying in furnishings and textiles for an enveloping, immersive feel. The effect is rich and layered, giving the sense of being wrapped up by the décor. Here, the warm coral colour of the walls is picked up in a headboard and curtains in our glorious Miji linen in Tomato, while a plain valance and geometric rug add to the sense of layering. This sort of cocooning scheme also works brilliantly in a snug.
Neutral colours are timeless
The neutral interior has never gone out of fashion: a palette of natural colours and materials creates a quiet, calming aesthetic that is the perfect antidote to our busy lives. Aim to keep the scheme interesting by grounding pale hues with darker accent colours, and introduce subtle patterns to enliven the décor. This lovely trellis design, Magic Lantern in Natural, nicely breaks up the large expanse of a sofa whilst bringing a fresh, organic quality to the space. A fantastic way to elevate a neutral scheme.
Pastels are in
The trend for slightly “muddy” pastel shades looks set to be a huge hit in 2023: think dusty blues, verdigris greens and, of course, the ever-popular plaster pinks. Less saccharine than their previous iterations, these pastels work beautifully with earthy neutrals to create a sophisticated style that is also incredibly inviting. The new pastels translate perfectly into velvet fabrics and our Omega III collection – the first eco velvet fabric range by our brand – features some gorgeous examples, from Pool to Sea Mist to this gorgeous Blush hue. Fabulous teamed here with moody grey walls…
All one colour
Monochrome is definitely having a moment: a scheme featuring tonal shades of the same colour feels considered and calming, and is also relatively easy to put together. Remember to nuance the tones as well as the textures, to bring depth to the décor. Here, the moody tones of an abstract mural have inspired the choice of fabrics, which range from inky velvet curtains to a loveseat in our Delta cotton in Airforce Blue. Cushions in the same smart cotton span shades ranging from Pewter grey to deep Ocean blue for a look that is elegant yet decidedly contemporary.
Luxurious velvet
Our company has always championed velvet for its sense of luxury and understated elegance and the latest trend is for mesmerising prints that enthral with their intricate patterns and beguiling colour palettes. Beautifully capturing this aesthetic, our Issa printed velvet takes its inspiration from a Persian textile and features prancing horses and bedecked warriors. A captivating design that brings a touch of whimsy to a traditional sofa.
Linen forever
Linen is very much this season’s go-to fabric for anyone wishing to create a relaxed aesthetic. Inherently sustainable – it is spun from the fibres of the flax plant that requires little more than sunshine and rainwater to grow – it lends itself perfectly to traditional and contemporary homes alike. Linwood produces a number of beautiful linen collections including Danube, which encompasses plains, checks, twills and these classic stripes in a range of muted hues. The gorgeously soft handle makes it perfect for simple blinds, curtains or cushions.
From pastels to lively prints, soft neutrals to retro designs, the latest fabric trends are diverse, but what they all share is a feel-good factor that ensures inviting interiors you will want to spend time in. Whether you subscribe to minimalism or maximalism; if your aim is to crank up the wow factor or create a quiet space for reflection, the key is to choose fabrics that spark joy, helping you create a comfortable, welcoming home.
